Concept Art: Canceled Pixar Movie ‘Newt’ And Sam Raimi’s Abandoned Lizard Designs From ‘Spider-Man 2’

Mere days after brandnew concept art emergedfor several of Pixar’s upcoming films, the same has happened for one of its abandonded projects.Newt, which was to be directed by Gary Rydstrom, was about how the last two newt salamanders on Earth hated each other and were forced to fall in love. The companycanceled the project backin 2010 (maybe cause it had the same plot as 2011’sRio?) but there was still a ton of work done on it. We’ve postedsome concept artfrom the project in the past, but a huge new batch of images have just come online by illustatorKaty Wu.As you can tell above, they’re exceedingly gorgeous.

And while we’re on the topic of concept art, you’ll also find two images below fromSam Raimi’sSpider-Man 2which show that Raimi was thinking of using the Lizard in the movie. Check it all out after the jump.

First up, here’s a bunch of theNewtconcept art posted by Katy Wuon her website. There’s even more there and you may read about the project by checking out ourold stories on it.

And then, the gang atComic Book Moviewas poking around concept artistConstantine Sekeris' site and found these two drawings, which he did for Sam Raimi when the director wasn’t sure who the villain forSpider-Man 2was going to be. What I find most interesting isn’t that Raimi canned the Lizard or even considered him. It’s how close these are to what we saw inThe Amazing Spider-Man.Do you agree?
