Five New ‘True Grit’ Posters Revealed
If you’ve been to a movie theater in the past month or two (and if you are reading this site, you probably have) you’ve seenthe teaser posterthat Paramount released forThe Coen Brothers’True Grit, starringJeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin,and newcomerHailee Steinfeld. It evoked an old west wanted poster, but outside of a few foreboding taglines, didn’t give us much information about the film.
We’re now just about a month away from the film’sDecember 22 releaseand the print campaign is heating up. There’s a cool international poster featuring the four leads together as well as a brand new set of character posters that individually showcase the awesome cast Joel and Ethan Coen have assembled for their adaptation of the 1968 Charles Portis novel (not the 1969 John Wayne film). I would imagine that, despite the different dates, some version of that international poster will end up being the final one sheet here in America too. Still, there is something even more imposing about the character posters. Each one shows these familiar actors in a much more menacing way than we are used to seeing them, while also doing a great job of introducing Hailee Steinfeld, who is already getting early Oscar buzz for her breakout role.
Speaking of Oscar buzz, it would seem like a no-brainer that this latest film from the Coen’s would have a strong showing at the Kodak come 2011. It has the cast, the crew and the prime late year release date. Still – four weeks out, I have yet to hear a single shred of feedback on the film. Maybe no one has seen it yet, maybe the Coens are still tweaking, but I know I can’t be the only one dying to hear any sliver of information about the movie.
