It’s Over! Sorta. The Last Two ‘Hunger Games’ Tributes Have Been Cast, Only Adults Remain
For the third straight day, Lionsgate has cast a very important role in their upcoming filmThe Hunger Games.Things werea little crazy there for a while as they kept announcing a cavalcade ofunknown kidswho would be competing in the titular event: an every-kid-for-himself, no holds barred, televised battle to the death. Finally though, the last pair of Tributes (making 24 total) have been cast and these are two of the most important, not including Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) of course.
The roles of Cato and Clove, two “career tributes” who are bred to compete in the Games and pose a more than formidable threat to the stars of the movie, will be played byAlexander Ludwig(Race to Witch Mountain) andIsabelle Fuhrman(Orphan). This is on the heels of finding out thatWes BentleyisSeneca Crane,Stanley TucciisCaesar Flickerman,Woody HarrelsonisHaymitch Abernathyanda whole bunch of other rolesthat might not seem important to you now but, come March 2012, you’ll care. Lionsgate once again announced the casting ontheir Facebook page, finally competing the entire roster of combatants in The Hunger Games. Instead of listing them all again, I think this is a more powerful visual:
Basically, if they have a name, they’re important. If they have a last name, they’re really important.
Cato and Clove were saved for last because, as all the Tributes kill each other, they’re two of the most frightening and significant. Without giving anything away, both were basically raised with an eye on competing in the Games and do quite well. They may even have one, two, or several significant and violent run-ins with Katniss and Peeta at various stages of the event.
So that’s it, right? Wrong. While we don’t have to hear about anymore random kids being cast in the film, there are stillseveral major adult rolesto be cast. Paramount among them President Snow – the villain of the series – and Cinna, Katniss’s designer and trusted ally. While both Tucci and Harrelsonwere rumored to be up for rolesand then got them, I think Lenny Kravitz is going to land the role of Cinna. We’ll see.
