Vin Diesel Continues To Toy With Marvel Fans, Vaguely Teasing Possible Roles
This is more a “don’t get your hopes up” piece than anything else.Vin Dieselis happy to use Facebook and Twitter to issue missives to his fans. Some of these feature concrete info about films like theFast and the Furioussequels andRiddick. Others are more cryptic, as when herecently talkedabout setting up a meeting with Marvel Studios. Today Diesel said the meeting went well, and threw in a couple words and ideas that got peoples' imaginations running.
But are his teases anything more than talk? Hard to say from here.
First up: guess how many actors Marvel has met with? Your answer should be something along the lines of “most of them.” The great majority you’ll never hear about, because most of the time you don’t hear about anyone’s meetings. Such meetings are the machinery of the film world; there are execs who could flippantly describe their jobs as “professional lunchers.”
So, sure, Marvel met with Diesel. The main news there is that it took so long.

Use of the word “vision” leads to assumptions that he could play the character of the same name inThe Avengers 2. The image he posted (below) suggests he could be Giant Man, another classic Avenger. Realistically, is he likely to be either one? Impossible to say from such insubstantial info.
I like the opinion atTHR, that Diesel would be best used as the voice for Rocket Raccoon inGuardians of the Galaxy. (His early role as the voice of the Iron Giant still, er, stands tall in his CV. More voice work from Diesel is always welcome.) Take it a step further and you could hope that he would do motion-capture for the character, too. But that’s nothing more than a theory, either, and given thatGuardiansis about to shoot it’s not impossible that he could be brought on last-minute. So: wait and see.
